older news
Alex's father Pete Turner has a new book out called The Color of Jazz. The book showcases 100 covers
and their art in close to original size; many of the covers are rare and out-of-print, now collector's items, and
connect to a who's who of musical legends from Count Basie, John Coltrane, and Stan Getz, to Quincy Jones,
Freddie Hubbard, and Steely Dan. It's a great book filled with images that will sear
themselves permanently into your brain.
Turner's two short films, Chuck and Disposal, are now available on DVD.

Disposal has been added to IFC TV's short film rotation. Watch for rare chance to see what Film Threat calls "a chilling little slice of mayhem."
For those folks who are having a hard time figuring out Dead Birds, go on and check out Elaine Lamkin's definitive Dead Birds Movie Field Guide.

Alex Turner was eleven years old when he made his first film with a home movie camera given to him by his
father, legendary photographer Pete Turner. His skewed vision of the world was apparent at an early age in
Super8mm epics like Dr. Griffin's Creation and Starflight 7.
A graduate of the film program at SUNY Purchase, Turner immersed himself in the world of feature and
commercial production in New York and Los Angeles. Memorable events from this time include a disastrous
stint as a pigeon wrangler on a shoot for commercial director Steve Horn and working as a PA on several
low budget films.
Turner eventually began directing music videos and made the transition to directing commercials for clients
including McDonald's, General Electric and Quaker State.
Alex's acclaimed short film Chuck has screened in over thirty film festivals. It was featured on the Sci-Fi
Channel, and won the Rod Sterling award at the 2001 Long Island Film Festival. Turner's short film Disposal
can be seen on IFC and was shown as part of LACMA's Young Directors Night.
Dead Birds, Turner's first feature, staring Henry Thomas, Isaiah Washington and Patrick Fugit, premiered at
the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival.
His latest film, Red Sands, starring Shane West, Leonard Roberts and J.K. Simmons, was released by Sony
Pictures/Stage 6 in February 2009.
He is currently working on a feature film adaptation of Sean Doolittle's critically acclaimed thriller The Cleanup.
A native of New York City, Alex currently lives in Northern California.
